Gwendolyn Rogers’ The Cake Bake Shop originated in Indianapolis, Indiana, and garnered a following due to its lavish atmosphere, ambitious use of glitter, delicious cakes, and upscale Creole cuisine. Nearly 10 years later, Ms. Rogers opened her Walt Disney World location at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort. When we initially experienced this restaurant, we weren’t blown away, but we did enjoy ourselves. For those who don’t know, The Cake Bake Shop features a grab-and-go bakery along with a full-scale table-service restaurant. We found the pricing to be just as ambitious as the design and menu at both locations. However, we’re not opposed to paying a premium for a premium experience, and during our first visit we felt the cakes were worth it, but the dining experience left something to be desired. It’s been close to a year and a half since The Cake Bake Shop Restaurant opened, and we felt this was the perfect time to see if this Walt Disney World signature dining experience is truly worth the hype. Admittedly, our experience was an outlier compared to others, and we went in hoping for redemption. Is The Cake Bake Shop really worth all the hype? Is their NEW German Chocolate Cake a game changer? Join us to find out!
