This is Part 1 of our 5 part series where we dine at our top 5 Italian restaurants at Walt Disney World to decide which one we think is the BEST. The restaurants featured in this series are Trattoria al Forno at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort, Il Mulino at the Swan Resort, Via Napoli at EPCOT, Tony’s Town Square at Magic Kingdom Park, and Ravello at the Four Seasons Resort. This video focuses on Trattoria al Forno. It’s been revered by Disney fans and vacationers for years, but it never quite lived up to the hype for us. Maybe growing up in Italian households, and even visiting Italy, made our palates a bit snobby, but dinner here always felt more Olive Garden than Carmine’s. That said, we do appreciate this restaurant. It feels uniquely Disney, and its flavors help immerse guests in the story of the resort. Trattoria al Forno was originally designed to represent a boarding house and tavern on a turn-of-the-20th-century Atlantic City Boardwalk, run by an Italian couple. As they raised their children and adapted to American life, the menu evolved to reflect their kids’ eclectic tastes, eventually growing into a larger, more refined dining establishment. Trattoria al Forno had to make our list for its unique theme and the fondness Disney fans have for it, though we still weren’t sure it truly belonged in our top five. Not to spoil anything, but we ended up having our best experience here yet. The pizza impressed us, the gnocchi was made in-house, AND they even had a bread service! Join us as we kick off our Walt Disney World Italian adventure and see whether Trattoria al Forno becomes our unlikely favorite Disney Italian restaurant.
