For over six years, the Garden View Lounge – Tea Experience sat abandoned. Located at the back of the lobby inside Walt Disney World’s flagship resort, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, this classic English afternoon tea once helped immerse guests in the resort’s Victorian theme. On March 19, the Garden View Lounge finally reopened, now featuring refreshed décor and a tea experience inspired by Alice in Wonderland. After having afternoon tea in London at the famous Shakespeare's Globe Theater, we wanted to see how Disney’s take on this United Kingdom classic compares. At nearly $100 per person, it’s certainly not cheap, and unlike many traditional tea services, only the tea and scones are all-you-care-to-enjoy. The experience is sponsored by Twinings, with six teas to choose from, including the exclusive Orangery of Lady Grey, brewed specifically for the Garden View Lounge. Every food item carries an Alice in Wonderland theme, with standout pieces inspired by the Mad Hatter’s hat and “painted rose” tea flavored hearts for the Queen of Hearts. We set out to find out if this experience is truly worth the price, and how it compares to our tea experience in the U.K. We go over the décor, atmosphere, and service, review each tea and food item, and wrap up with whether we think this experience is for everyone or perhaps a bit too niche.
